Dementia Aware + Train the Trainer
Location: Civic Centre, Pontypool, Level 4 Training Room
We are excited to announce the launch of our Dementia Aware + Train the Trainer programme designed to deliver Dementia Aware information sessions across Gwent. This FREE programme aims to equip Dementia Aware Session Leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to educate people across the community, citizen or professional about dementia basics.
Dementia Aware is an initiative focused on increasing awareness and understanding of dementia. It provides valuable information on recognising the signs and symptoms of dementia, effective communication strategies, and ways to support individuals living with dementia. By becoming a Dementia Aware Session Leader, you will play a crucial role in spreading this knowledge and fostering a more inclusive and supportive community – a dementia friendly community!
As a Session Leader, you will be expected to:
- Deliver the Dementia Aware information session a minimum of twice a year, each session is 1.5 hours long.
- Provide feedback on the sessions, its easy, we just need to know when, where and how many people attended and any themes that arise from the sessions.
- Help deliver sessions across various communities and sectors – these sessions are open to all, and no prior knowledge is required.
The initial Train the Trainer sessions will take approximately 3–4 hours. We understand the importance of ongoing support, and we are committed to assisting you in your role as a Session Leader. You will receive support and resources to help you succeed in delivering impactful sessions and have the opportunity to be part of our Dementia Friendly Gwent Network.
We believe that your participation in this programme will make a significant difference in raising dementia awareness and creating a more dementia-friendly Gwent helping people living with, or caring for a person with dementia feel more understood, respected and supported in the community whilst shaping and influencing future dementia care in Gwent.
