Established in August 2018 The Gwent Care Career Pathway is a unique holistic approach that supports the development, qualification and recruitment of health and social care workers across the Gwent region.

The Gwent Care Career pathway has developed a new structure of collaboration between Coleg Gwent, Aneurin University Health Board, the five local authorities, regional employability projects and private providers of social care. The pathway looks to develop and strengthen relevant work placements and experiential learning for health and social care students helping to ensure they are inspired to work in the sector once their studies are completed.

This innovative, co-produced approach to solving the recruitment crisis currently facing health and social care was recently awarded Bevan Commission Exemplar status for 2020. We have also been made a Social Care Wales Accolades finalist. In October 2019 we won a Valued Partner, silver award from Careers Wales for our engagement with secondary school pupils across the region.

Design students at Coleg Gwent have also contributed to this work programme helping with branding and designing our logo. Our approach has also been captured as part of the We Care Wales national attraction and recruitment campaign. The Gwent Care Career Pathway also has Twitter and Facebook profiles where positive news stories about the health and social care sector and current vacancies in Gwent are shared.

In December 2018 The Gwent Regional Partnership Team, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Petra Publishing worked with Blenheim Road Primary school pupils to produce a book called 'Billy the Superhero'.

Billy is the story of boy who loves superheroes and is inspired to become a doctor after seeing the way health and social care professionals care for his nan. The book introduces the topic of health and social care to children, the important role it plays in our lives while highlighting the dedication and commitment of those who work in the sector.

The book features the wonderful illustrations of Andy O’Rourke and some of these illustrations are now available to download and colour in. We hope these wonderful pictures help to inspire the next generation of health and social care heroes across Gwent.

If you would like to purchase copies of the book please visit: and simply leave them a message. All proceeds will help to fund future titles.

Happy Colouring!
